The exhibition highlights the historical and institutional ties between the Leopold Museum-Privatstiftung and the Oesterreichische Nationalbank, which provided foundational financial support to establish the museum in 1994. For the first time, a comprehensive selection from the bank’s extensive art holdings is on public display, focusing on Austrian painting and sculpture created from 1918 to the present day.
The presentation traces the evolution of modern and contemporary artistic movements in Austria. Visitors can view key examples of New Objectivity and post-Expressionism from the interwar period—including pieces by Rudolf Wacker, Franz Sedlacek, Greta Freist, and Max Oppenheimer—alongside geometric and gestural abstractions from the post-1945 era.
