Discovering Alpine Inspiration and Historical Pioneers
The works on display stem from a project developed throughout 2014 during the artist's residency at La Casa de Velázquez, the French School in Madrid. Central to the exhibition is an exploration of the contemplative female figure amidst vast mountain landscapes, drawing conceptual inspiration from Immanuel Kant’s essay Observations on the Feeling of the Beautiful and Sublime.
Through her creative practice, Gracia investigates the profound solitude and silence of high, snow-capped peaks. Her research honors historical mountaineering figures such as Marie Paradis and Henriette d'Angeville, who broke societal boundaries in the nineteenth century by ascending Mont Blanc. By reframing these historical climbs through a romantic and introspective lens, the artist examines a pivotal shift in social paradigms during an era when domestic life was typically expected of women.

The exhibition brings together sculptures crafted from cement, stone, and iron, complemented by historical maps and photographs of Mont Blanc. Born in Pamplona in 1985, Gracia completed her Fine Arts degree at the UPV/EHU faculty in Leioa and has previously exhibited at prominent institutions such as the Guggenheim Bilbao, Fundación BilbaoArte, and Sala Rekalde.
