Exploring the GEHE Exhibition and New Artistic Directions in Bilbao
Espacio Marzana has launched a fresh exhibition format alongside the Bilbao Estuary, opening its new season with a showcase dedicated to the young artist GEHE. This presentation marks the beginning of an ongoing project by the gallery to follow and document the creative development of the artist from the earliest stages of formal university training through completion of a degree.
Visitors stepping into the gallery space can examine works rooted in lifelong drawing practice. Growing up in an artistic household with painter parents Carlos Marcote and Lourdes Vicente, GEHE has drawn consistently from an early age. Prior to beginning studies at the University of Salamanca, the artist completed a residency at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) in Philadelphia and exhibited alongside Carlos Marcote at Espacio Zuloa.
The current presentation highlights a style influenced by Japanese manga traditions, featuring imagined characters rendered on paper and through digital tools. These works originate primarily from sketches and notes captured continuously in a personal sketchbook.
