Public squares and streetscapes across global cities frequently feature commemorative statues honoring historical figures, monarchs, and military leaders. Instead of physical installations intended for public squares, the project introduces a series of fictional sculptural models. Utilizing digital 3D modeling, the works manipulate scale, texture, and illumination to propose hypothetical replacements for well-known historical sites. In one digital scenario, a prominent monument like the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., is digitally altered, substituting the seated president with a monumental figure of a hooded individual holding a bat.
A Critical Dialogue on Art, Propaganda, and Authority
Alongside these large-scale digital insertions, the exhibition features a secondary grouping of works set against stark black backdrops with high-contrast lighting, functioning much like preparatory studio studies.
Rather than offering practical alternatives to traditional civic memorials, these fictional proposals operate as parodies. By mimicking the scale and solemnity of conventional monuments while swapping portraits of leaders for anonymous figures engaged in civil unrest or protest, the works probe the intersection of art, propaganda, and political imagery. They raise questions about how violence, authority, and societal power structures are symbolized in public art.
