Exploring Regionale 21 at Kunsthaus Baselland in Basel
Kunsthaus Baselland hosts Regionale 21, a group exhibition that brings together seventeen distinct artistic positions from regional and international creators. Set within the contemporary-art institution in the Dreispitz district, the exhibition invites visitors to engage with a wide-ranging appraisal of our immediate surroundings, habits, and contemporary realities.
What to Expect from the Exhibition Space
The works on display span various media, including sculpture, installation, video, and performance. Reminiscent of a collective poem, the exhibition title lines and individual artwork names weave a conceptual thread through the galleries. The participating artists draw on existing everyday resources, materials, and architectural structures, recontextualizing them to provoke new perspectives.
Visitors encounter diverse spatial interventions, from Mitchell Anderson's recontextualized street objects to Philipp Hänger's liberated escalator handrails that span the architecture of the exhibition hall. Other featured positions include Eric Hattan’s spatial interventions, Matthias Liechti’s ornamental text arrangements, and Céline Manz’s explorations of historical women artists. The presentation is further expanded by soundscapes, video pieces, and object-based installations from creators such as Anina Müller, Alexandra Navratil, Jan van Oordt, Jacob Ott, Nina Rieben, Anna Schwehr, Flurina Sokoll, Romain Tièche, Johannes Willi, Raphael Loosli & Arnaud Wohlhauser, and Olga Zimmelova.
