Tyra Wigg Brings SQUEEZE to Kunsthaus Baselland in Basel
Contemporary-art enthusiasts in Basel have the opportunity to experience SQUEEZE, a boundary-pushing performance project by choreographer Tyra Wigg. Hosted at Kunsthaus Baselland, the production explores a sensory-rich landscape of touch, movement, and material interaction.
Exploring the SQUEEZE Performance Experience
Created under the artistic concept and choreography of Tyra Wigg, SQUEEZE invites audiences into a physical world shaped by vibrant flesh, muscular release, and tactile curiosity. Accompanied by the live sound design of Nya Bürki, performing artists engage in a continuous flow of kneading, pressing, stretching, and shaking. Dressed in pragmatic hiking wear and cozy sleeping bags, the participants interact closely with each other and their environment, blurring the lines between human form and inanimate matter, as well as between caregivers and care receivers.
Following the 70-minute performance, visitors are welcomed into a post-performance care session. This communal atmosphere encourages the audience to linger, offering an opportunity to practice massage therapy techniques alongside the performers in a relaxed environment. Light refreshments and drinks accompany the gatherings after evening events.
Visiting the Exhibition and Event Details
The presentation runs through a series of scheduled performances, beginning with the premiere on Thursday, November 9, and continuing through November 12. Prior to the main run, a preparatory workshop led by Tyra Wigg took place on October 28. Ticket sales and reservations are handled externally through Roxy Birsfelden. Visitors should note that the venue's facilities have certain limitations, as the toilets are not wheelchair accessible.
