Curatorial context

Our Owl Is Pink: Colourful Stories investigates the multifaceted relationship between humanity and color. Through a collection of about 200 diverse objects, the exhibition highlights the ways color functions as a social and emotional bridge, influencing our perception of the world. From historical trade in pigments to the contemporary significance of colorful textiles like Ukrainian vyshyvanka blouses, the exhibition reveals how color is used to protect, decorate, and communicate identity. The exhibition was co-designed with input from children as well as people with visual or hearing impairments, ensuring a highly sensory and inclusive visitor experience. Visitors are invited to engage beyond the visual, with hands-on areas and a dedicated Creative Space where they can contribute their own work to the exhibition’s evolving narrative. Themes of colonialism, resistance, and creative self-expression are woven throughout the displays, offering a thought-provoking look at the global history and personal impact of color.
