Cultural Exhibitions and Local Initiatives at the Bridge
Earlier in the spring, the landmark hosted the moving “Juntos porque somos hermanos” exhibition organized by Aldeas Infantiles SOS, which drew attention to the importance of keeping sibling groups together in vulnerable circumstances. The structure also joined regional celebrations for International Museum Day under the banner “Bizkaia is a museum, because we have so many,” offering visitors special promotional access to the panoramic walkway.
In addition to art and social awareness displays, the site has been integrated into environmental research networks. Scientific center AZTI installed artificial intelligence-driven camera systems on the structure to monitor marine litter and microplastics traveling from the estuary out to sea, contributing valuable data toward regional sustainability efforts.

Following routine inspections, teams have undertaken preventive reinforcement work on the suspension cables alongside exterior repainting of the gondola and upper towers. To accommodate warm weather operations and ongoing engineering checks, temporary weight and vehicle limits have been put in place for the suspended transporter gondola, prioritizing non-polluting transport such as bicycles alongside pedestrians.
As the structure approaches its 132nd anniversary on July 28, visitors can expect a festive atmosphere featuring a rapid painting competition, an exclusive commemorative postal release, and a live performance by El Pacto. Travelers can also combine their visit with regional estuary excursions through local maritime partnerships such as Bilboats.
