Bunkermuseum Antwerp Brings World War II History to Life in Park Den Brandt
The Bunkermuseum Antwerp marked the start of its season with the return of its annual "Living Museum" weekend in March 2026. Held in Park Den Brandt, the event drew hundreds of local residents and history enthusiasts who gathered to see the park's preserved wartime defensive installations fully active.
Inside the Reenactment: Bringing the Park Den Brandt Bunkers to Life
The weekend event succeeded thanks to the dedication of volunteers and historical reenactors who portrayed the daily realities of the war. Visitors to the park explored several structures, including the large SK1 command bunker and the smaller VF bunkers.
Inside the first SK1 museum bunker, reenactors depicted German defensive operations, while American troops took up quarters in the second SK1 bunker, lightheartedly renaming it the "Fritz Carlton" for the weekend. The pleasant spring weather allowed visitors to spend hours wandering between the outdoor displays and the underground spaces. A new addition to the experience was the debut of the onsite "bunker bar," providing a dedicated space for attendees to rest and purchase drinks.
