Visiting the De Koninck City Brewery Tour

The brewery was established in 1833 by Johannes Vervliet, who converted an existing inn into a brewery. Vervliet was married to Elisabeth Cop, the widow of Joseph Henricus De Koninck, who had originally purchased the inn at that location in 1827.

In 1845, Carolus De Koninck, the son of Elisabeth Cop, assumed leadership of the brewery company.

Between 1912 and 1919, the company was managed by Florent van Bauwel and financier Joseph Van den Bogaert. Following this, Modeste Van den Bogaert led the company from 1949 until 2000, after which his sons Bernard and Dominique assumed management roles.

In 2010, the brewery was acquired by Brouwerij Duvel Moortgat for 29.9 million euros. The acquisition included the brewery's real estate, consisting of 63 inns.

The brewery opened its doors to the public in 2015 following a comprehensive site renovation. A new interactive tour was introduced, allowing visitors to learn about the city of Antwerp's beer culture and the technical brewing process.

In 2019, the brewery officially renamed its most iconic beer from 'De Koninck' to 'Bolleke', reflecting the nickname local consumers had used for years due to the beer's signature glass shape.

In May 2025, it was announced that production of the Bolleke and Tripel d'Anvers beers would move to the Duvel Moortgat brewery in Breendonk for at least three years, caused by construction works in the vicinity of the original Antwerp brewery.
