Discover the Paul Van Hoeydonck Tribute Exhibition and Space Art at KMSKA

On the occasion of what would have been the 100th birthday of the late Antwerp-born artist Paul Van Hoeydonck, the KMSKA presents a comprehensive month-long tribute. The exhibition features more than 30 works that trace the artist’s prolific career, spanning from his early interests in still lifes and geometric abstraction to the visionary kinetic works that defined his experimental period. Central to the display is the 'Fallen Astronaut,' a small sculpture famously placed on the lunar surface during the 1971 Apollo 15 mission, reflecting the artist's deep engagement with the space age. The narrative of the exhibition follows Van Hoeydonck's artistic journey through major European and American art movements, including his involvement with the G58 group and his explorations into the cosmic realm. Visitors can explore a variety of mediums, including collages, white monochromes, and unique 'mutant' sculptures made from found objects. By juxtaposing his early career with his later fascination with humanity's future in space, the exhibition provides a profound look at how Van Hoeydonck consistently challenged artistic conventions and pioneered new ways of envisioning the universe.
