Curatorial context

The eleventh edition of the 'Abierto por vacaciones' program at the Michel Mejuto Gallery features the work of artist Manuel Casellas. The exhibition showcases an experimental body of work where the medium of photography is utilized to construct new spatial interpretations based on architectural subjects. Alongside these pieces, the gallery presents selections from Casellas’s recent project, 'Obsolescencia Programada' (Planned Obsolescence), which offers a metaphorical critique of the structural limitations within the current societal and economic context. 'Abierto por vacaciones' is a collaborative initiative between the Michel Mejuto Gallery and BilbaoArte. The program provides the gallery's front space to emerging artists who have received annual grants to develop their projects at the BilbaoArte workshops. While the Michel Mejuto Gallery primarily focuses on established artists from the 19th and 20th centuries, this special initiative aims to provide a platform for young creators at the beginning of their careers, fostering the development of future art.

Admission and ticket notes

The exhibition is open to the public during the last fortnight of July. Throughout the month of August, the works are available for viewing exclusively through the gallery storefront window. No booking is required for general public viewing during open hours.
