Visiting La Malagueta Tour and CEIT

Construction work on the bullring officially commenced on June 16, 1874. The project experienced a significant interruption shortly after, with work being halted from December 23, 1874, until October 10, 1875.

The bullring was officially inaugurated on June 11, 1876, with a traditional corrida de toros held to mark the completion of the structure.

The Neo-Mudéjar architectural design of the bullring was the work of architect Joaquín Rucoba, who was also responsible for designing the Mercado de Atarazanas in Málaga.

During the final months of the Spanish Civil War in 1939, the bullring was repurposed by the regime to house prisoners as existing camps reached capacity. It was used again for the same purpose during the Second World War in 1943.

In 1976, the site received formal recognition as a Conjunto histórico, marking a significant step in its protection as a cultural asset.

The bullring was added to the list of national heritage sites in Spain when it was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural in 1981.

A major refurbishment project was completed in 2010, which updated the facility and established its current seating capacity of 9,032 spectators.

A two-year renovation project began in 2017 to adapt the interior of the building. The goal of this initiative was to transform the venue into a multi-purpose cultural center capable of hosting events throughout the year, beyond its traditional use as a bullring.
