Jardín Botánico-Histórico La Concepción

The garden was founded around 1855 by the marriage of Jorge Loring y Oyarzábal and Amalia Heredia Livermore. Originally created as a private recreational estate for their family, it served as a site for botanical and archaeological exploration during the 19th century.

Following the financial collapse of the Loring-Heredia family, the estate was purchased by the Echevarría Azcarate family in 1911. During their tenure, they carried out significant landscape improvements and expanded the variety of trees and palm species on the property.

On September 27, 1943, the garden received official recognition as a historical-artistic garden. This status is currently recognized under the Bien de Interés Cultural designation in Spain, highlighting its heritage significance.

The City of Málaga acquired the property in 1990, ending a period of decline and abandonment that began after the death of previous owners. Upon acquisition, the council established the Municipal Botanical Board 'Ciudad de Málaga' to oversee the management and public operation of the gardens.

After the city council acquired the estate in 1990, a four-year period of renovations and adaptation was required. The site officially opened to the public in 1994, transitioning from a private estate to a public botanical institution.

In 1997, the garden introduced its first modern botanical route titled 'Around the world in eighty trees'. This project was designed to systematically display species from five continents, marking the beginning of the development of the contemporary botanical sections within the park.
