Experience The Fragility of Steel Sculpture Art Exhibition at Ateneo de Málaga

This exhibition features sixteen sculptural works by artist Juanjo Almeda, primarily crafted from steel and tungsten. Through these metal pieces, the artist explores themes of existence, love, and spirituality, challenging the contemporary tendency toward deconstruction with a focus on realism.

The exhibition presents a series of sixteen sculptures by Juanjo Almeda, an artist known for his hands-on approach to metalwork. Using only electric welding and grinders, Almeda shapes his materials—mostly steel alongside one tungsten piece—to reflect deep existential and morphological concerns. The work includes representative figures and conceptual forms, such as 'Los dedos del poeta' and 'Arco de Eros', which delve into themes of heartache, devotion, and the human condition. Eschewing the deconstructive trends often found in contemporary art, Almeda favors a realist approach that aligns with his perspective as both a sculptor and a poet. Almeda, who hails from the El Palo neighborhood in Málaga, brings years of industrial metalworking experience to his artistic practice. By manually sculpting solid steel without the use of molds or casting, he creates works that demonstrate a commitment to both technical mastery and personal expression. This collection serves as a narrative journey through physical and emotional states, transforming hard, cold materials into objects of sensitivity and meaning. Through this interplay of strength and fragility, the artist invites viewers to engage with subjects ranging from ecological concern to the tender observation of nature, all realized through the medium of forged steel.
