The Schroder Gallery presents a world-class private collection of 16th-century Renaissance silver, paintings, bronzes, and maiolica. This long-term display showcases over 100 masterpieces, including rare treasures such as the Schwarzenberg Nef and the Aldobrandini Tazza.
The Schroder Gallery, situated on the lower ground floor of the Holburne Museum, is a dedicated space housing one of the finest private collections of Renaissance decorative arts. The display brings together more than 100 exquisite pieces, including elaborate silverwork, detailed bronzes, vibrant Italian maiolica, and significant paintings from the early 16th century. Among the notable highlights are the Schwarzenberg Nef—a remarkable silver vessel designed for wine—the ornate Nautilus Cup, and the celebrated Aldobrandini Tazza, which belongs to a rare set of 16th-century dishes.
Beyond the silver collection, the gallery features important paintings by master artists such as Lucas Cranach the Elder and Hans Holbein the Elder. These works, held on long-term loan from the Schroder Family Collection, offer visitors an opportunity to view exceptional craftsmanship and artistic heritage in a thoughtfully curated setting. Dr. Chris Stephens, Director of the Holburne Museum, has described the space as one of the most beautiful galleries in the UK, highlighting the generosity of the Schroder family in making these world-class works accessible to the public.
