Exhibition summary

For the tenth edition of the Abierto por Vacaciones program, Michel Mejuto Gallery presents a selection of works by artist Carla Andrade. Drawing from three distinct photographic projects—Paths to Land, Paisaxe Suspendida, and Primary Mist Landscapes—the exhibition explores landscape as a return to a primal, wild origin.

Curatorial context

This exhibition marks the tenth iteration of the 'Abierto por Vacaciones' (Open for Vacation) program at the Michel Mejuto Gallery, an initiative created in collaboration with BilbaoArte to support emerging artists. The exhibition showcases ten selected works by Carla Andrade, which are drawn from her broader photographic research projects: 'Paths to Land', 'Paisaxe Suspendida', and 'Primary Mist Landscapes'. These works are curated to function as narrative links, connecting through the common denominator of the landscape as a foundational, primitive environment. Andrade's work interprets the landscape as a refuge for the human subconscious, situating nature as a powerful and unattainable force. Her photography emphasizes the mystery inherent in space and time, juxtaposing the sublime qualities of the natural world with the inherent fragility of human existence. The program itself is a cornerstone of the gallery's outreach, providing a dedicated space for scholarship recipients from BilbaoArte to exhibit their work, bridging the gap between historical art gallery programming and the contemporary creative practices shaping the future of art.

Admission and ticket notes

The exhibition is open to the public during the second half of July. Throughout the month of August, the works are available for viewing via the gallery's display window only; no separate ticket or booking is required for general visitation during public hours.
