Exhibition summary

This exhibition features site-specific installations by Ektor Rodriguez that challenge the rigid, cubic nature of gallery spaces through the introduction of spherical forms. The project reflects on environmental and societal threats, exploring the relationship between biological identity and human-made structures.

Curatorial context

In this exhibition, Ektor Rodriguez explores the tension between the organic and the artificial. By introducing spherical forms—a shape associated with natural perfection and the divine—into the rigid, linear, and cubic architecture of the gallery, the artist exposes the fragility of human-constructed environments. This manipulation of space acts as a commentary on the contemporary crises caused by modern civilization, including global warming, species extinction, and the pressures of overpopulation. The artist expresses a commitment to engaging with current realities, believing that art must be an active agent rather than a passive object. By sharing a sense of collective responsibility for unsustainable development, Rodriguez challenges the viewer to contemplate humanity's capacity to survive the consequences of its own actions. This exhibition is part of the 'Abierto por vacaciones' (Open for Holidays) program, a collaboration between the Michel Mejuto Gallery and BilbaoArte that provides a platform for emerging artists to showcase their work.

The exhibition was open to the public during the last two weeks of July 2007, and continued to be viewable through the gallery's display window throughout the month of August. No formal ticket booking was required for general viewing as part of the summer program at the Michel Mejuto Gallery.
