Live Performance and Contemporary Art Converge at Colección del Museo Ruso Málaga for FAV 2026
The second edition of the Festival de Artes Vivas (FAV 2026) has officially launched, transforming several of the city’s major cultural venues into dynamic stages for contemporary creation. Running until April 25, 2026, the festival builds on its inaugural edition from last year to offer over a dozen multidisciplinary showcases.
Through a curated mix of dance, theater, performance art, and collaborative workshops, the festival encourages visitors to engage with exhibition spaces in entirely new ways. The events are spread across prominent cultural hubs, including the Colección del Museo Ruso, the Centre Pompidou Málaga, the Museo Casa Natal Picasso, and MUCAC La Coracha.
What Visitors Can Expect at Colección del Museo Ruso
For those visiting the Colección del Museo Ruso during the festival, the program features several unique events that blend physical movement with visual storytelling. Among the key highlights is Qué importa el abismo by artist Aïda Colmenero Dïaz, a performance that integrates dance, literature, and cinema, alongside short film screenings focused on African women.
Visitors can also experience Yo / contigo / aquí, a collective introspection piece developed by performer Rocío Texeira in collaboration with local education students. Additionally, on April 17, the venue will host a new chapter of Parque, a project by Cristian Alcaraz and Violeta Niebla. This initiative brings together real-time writing and performance, created through collaborative workshops with local community associations.
The festival culminates at the venue on April 25 with Gero Domínguez's multidisciplinary performance, Yo no soy la obra, which blends flamenco singing, poetry, and contemporary music. This closing day will also host an artist roundtable moderated by Daniel Galindo, followed by a live DJ set and a social gathering for participants and attendees.
Festival Highlights Across Málaga's Cultural Spaces
Beyond the Colección del Museo Ruso, the festival presents diverse artistic interventions throughout the city. At the Centre Pompidou Málaga, dancer David Coria and singer David Lagos opened the festival with Otro, a performance showcasing a modern dialogue within flamenco. The Pompidou is also hosting Lucero, an eight-day continuous performance by Alessandra García that encourages ongoing interactions with museum visitors, as well as the theatrical comedy Ruido by Jose Padilla.
Meanwhile, the Museo Casa Natal Picasso will host a public, live recording of the cultural radio program La Sala. At MUCAC La Coracha, artist Marc Montijano is presenting El trabajo del tiempo: la práctica de la espera, an durational performance piece exploring human transformation and wait times.
