Exploring Environmental History at La Térmica Cultural with 'Eroding Franco'
La Térmica Cultural has launched a new documentary exhibition titled 'Eroding Franco', inviting visitors to examine the intersection of mid-century policy and modern environmental challenges. Organised in collaboration with the Commissioner for the Celebration of 50 Years of Spain in Freedom, the display brings a critical lens to how past economic models continue to shape contemporary landscapes.
Visualizing Ecological Legacy in Visitor Spaces
Set within the venue's main lobby, the exhibition features 25 photographs captured by visual journalist and documentary photographer Jordi Jon between 2019 and 2024. The curated selection bridges historical archives with contemporary photography, highlighting the environmental consequences of mid-20th-century development policies such as mass tourism, intensive agriculture, and extensive construction.
Through this visual narrative, the showcase aims to prompt visitors to draw connections between historical decision-making and current environmental pressures, including desertification. Jordi Jon, co-founder of MÓN—an organization dedicated to climate-focused visual journalism—brings an investigative approach rooted in scientific and critical perspectives to the venue. His previous work has traveled to international venues such as Rencontres d’Arles and the Museum of Warsaw, using imagery as a tool for public analysis.
