Marina Núñez Explores Interconnected Realities in New Exhibition at Malaga's La Térmica
Contemporary art invites us to reconsider our relationship with the world around us. At La Térmica, a major new immersive showcase by Spanish artist Marina Núñez challenges visitors to reflect on the deep dependencies between humans, nature, and the wider universe. Titled Tantos mundos en este ("So Many Worlds in This One"), the exhibition opens to the public on June 20, 2026, running through January 17, 2027.
Organized by the Fundación Ciudad de la Energía (CIUDEN), this project brings together visual art, digital creation, and ecological philosophy.
What to Expect at the "Tantos mundos en este" Exhibition
Curated by art historian Isabel Durán, the exhibition is set in the Hulla room. It features a multisensory experience that blends traditional physical materials with modern digital creation tools. The goal of the exhibition is to dissolve the boundaries between the human body, natural landscapes, and entire ecosystems, encouraging empathy, care, and coexistence.
The centerpiece of the display is a massive 104-square-meter floor mosaic composed of 288 digitally printed ceramic tiles. This installation is paired with a custom musical score composed by Luis de la Torre. Through aerial imagery and symbolic representations of interconnected spheres, the artwork forms a visual metaphor for the Earth and the diverse, overlapping worlds residing on it.
Additionally, visitors can observe Cosmos, a series of ten laser-etched glass spheres resting on illuminated LED bases. These delicate pieces represent the universe as a fragile, living, and constantly shifting organism.
An Accompanying Artist Book and Context
To complement the physical gallery experience, an artist book of the same title has been co-published by CIUDEN, the Ministry of Culture, and Guillermo Escolar Editor. Designed by PeiPe Estudio, the publication features an essay by curator Isabel Durán titled La lengua de la Tierra ("The Language of the Earth"), alongside a curated selection of prints and a fold-out poster.
Marina Núñez is highly regarded in the Spanish contemporary art scene, with previous individual exhibitions showcased at prestigious venues such as the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Museo Lázaro Galdiano. This latest project at La Térmica reinforces the cultural center's commitment to presenting contemporary works that engage with pressing modern-day social and environmental questions.
