Cristina Céspedes Transforms the Entrance of MEET Málaga for the 2026 Festival
A new site-specific artistic intervention has arrived at the historic Tabacalera complex. Local Málaga artist Cristina Céspedes has unveiled her latest work, Consensus ritualis, specifically designed for the main staircase entrance at MEET Málaga Espacio Expositivo Tabacalera. Created as part of the cultural programming for the Málaga de Festival 2026, the installation is now open to the public.
What Visitors Can Experience at the 'Consensus ritualis' Installation in Málaga
Positioned directly on the wall facing the entrance stairs of the exhibition space, Consensus ritualis offers an immersive experience that reinterprets the interior of the European Council. By utilizing a distinct color palette inspired by the work of artist Georges Meurant, Céspedes transforms a political decision-making environment into a symbolic, sensory space.
The artwork serves as a visual and physical commentary on the fragility and necessity of human consensus in daily life. At the heart of the installation is a physical table, serving as a symbolic device where dialogue, listening, and negotiation take place.
Visitors are actively encouraged to step into the work, occupy the empty seats, and participate. Because of the table's small scale, those who sit are brought into close physical proximity, accelerating communication and emphasizing the shared responsibility of reaching common ground.
A Tradition of Creative Wall Interventions in Málaga
The creator, Cristina Céspedes, holds a deep connection to the regional arts scene. A graduate of Fine Arts from the University of Granada with specialized degrees in interior design and cultural management, she has spent over a decade developing temporary public art installations. Through her personal creative studio, El Cuboide, she has brought numerous projects to life across the city, including works at the Picasso Birthplace Museum, the Municipal Archive, and La Térmica.
This project continues a well-established tradition of inviting contemporary creators to reimagine the entryway at MEET Málaga. This series of artistic wall interventions has previously featured diverse projects by regional and national artists, including Darko, Emmanuel Lafont, Julio Anaya Cabanding, Eryk Pall and David Burbano, Guillermo Mora, Jorge Fin, and Ángeles Sioli.
