FOTOHOF Celebrates New Book Launch for Sabine Jelinek’s »Transfiguration« in Vienna
FOTOHOF presents a special book launch event for Transfiguration, a new publication featuring the long-term photographic series by Sabine Jelinek. The gathering takes place at Stumpergasse 53-55 in Vienna, offering visitors a chance to engage directly with the artist's ongoing exploration of intimate physical states and self-portraiture.

The 120-page publication brings together 50 images from the Transfiguration series, developed between 2003 and 2026. In this sustained body of work, Jelinek documents recurring instances of nosebleeds captured in front of a mirror, positioning herself simultaneously as the subject and the creator of each photograph. To enhance the tactile and reflective qualities of the project, the publication utilizes a specialized varnish finish. Its compact softcover format is deliberately chosen to underscore the vulnerable, private nature of the imagery.
Alongside the visual works, an accompanying text by Ruth Horak examines the photographs within the broader tradition of mirror-based self-portraiture. The writing connects art-historical themes of suffering with critical inquiries into the photographic apparatus, the gaze, and self-observation. The presentation features an artist talk with Sabine Jelinek in conversation with Sebastian Gansrigler.
