The state-rooms of the Residenz Palace offer an immersive look into the ceremonial life and political power of the Salzburg Prince Archbishops. Originally developed by Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau in the early 17th century, these halls were designed to demonstrate prestige and authority through their Italian-influenced architecture and lavish artistic programs. Over the centuries, subsequent rulers modernized these spaces with frescoes by Johann Michael Rottmayr, stucco by masters such as Antonio Carabelli and Francesco Brenno, and eventually neoclassical refinements commissioned by Hieronymus Graf von Colloredo.
