Exhibition summary

Crabe Chorus is a solo exhibition by artist Violaine Lochu that explores the personal and political dimensions of the cancer experience. Through a diverse range of media, including performance, sound, video, and drawing, the exhibition reclaims the narrative of illness as a collective and multifaceted experience.

Curatorial context

Crabe Chorus serves as the second installment in a programming series dedicated to public health issues, occupying the entirety of the CEAAC art center. Inspired by a series of pieces created in 2023, the exhibition presents a comprehensive look at works produced by Violaine Lochu between 2018 and 2026. A significant portion of this body of work was newly developed in Strasbourg in collaboration with local patients, caregivers, and medical professionals from the Clinique Sainte Anne and Strasbourg Oncologie Libérale, as well as participants from the Haute école des arts du Rhin. Lochu’s practice utilizes performance, drawing, video, sound, and photography to create immersive installations that bridge the gap between clinical treatments and the lived realities of those affected by cancer. By framing the exhibition under the concept of a 'chorus'—a multitude of voices acting as a protective collective—the work rejects the notion that illness is merely a private or medical struggle. Instead, it invites the audience to engage with the physical and political thresholds between health and illness, fostering a space for dialogue, shared experience, and artistic resistance.

Admission and ticket notes

Admission to the exhibition is free for the general public. Guided tours are available on the first weekend of each month and during the ST-ART event without reservation, while specific performance events may require prior booking through the contact details provided on the CEAAC website.
