Dialog im Dunkeln Vienna: An Immersive Sensory Exhibition Guided by Blind Staff

Dialog im Dunkeln is a unique exhibition where visitors are guided by blind or visually impaired guides through completely darkened rooms, recreating everyday situations. This lightless environment transforms familiar settings into an engaging adventure, encouraging participants to experience the world through different senses.

Dialog im Dunkeln offers a profound experience where visitors step into a world devoid of sight. In small groups, participants are accompanied by blind or visually impaired guides through specially designed, completely darkened rooms that replicate various everyday scenarios. This immersive journey challenges visitors to rely on their other senses – hearing, smell, touch, and taste – to navigate and understand their surroundings. The exhibition aims to provide a unique perspective on reality, highlighting how sensory perception can be heightened and altered in the absence of light. The guides, who live with blindness or visual impairment, lead the experience, sharing their expertise and insights. Each tour lasts approximately 50 minutes, with groups departing every 15 minutes, accommodating up to 8 people. The experience is generally recommended for children aged 6 and above, with flexibility for younger children if they do not require light to sleep. Tours can be conducted in German or English, and reservations are required.

Reservations are required for all visits. Visitors can call 01 / 890 60 60 or email [email protected] to book a spot. Different pricing tiers are available for adults, students, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and families. A print-at-home voucher option is also available for purchasing the experience as a gift.
