This exhibition brings together highlights of 20th and 21st century art, featuring diverse movements from Viennese art around 1900 to contemporary works. Visitors actively influenced the selection of artworks through the #ARTfluence project, making it a participatory experience.
"KLIMT ⇄ WARHOL" presents a dynamic collection of modern masterpieces from the 20th and 21st centuries, spanning various artistic trends such as Vienna around 1900, German Expressionism, Surrealism, post-war abstraction, Pop Art, and contemporary art. This exhibition is unique in that its selection of works was directly shaped by visitors through the #ARTfluence project, who had months to vote for their favorites. The presentation itself is a curated Gesamtkunstwerk, designed by artist Markus Schinwald, who created an atmosphere reminiscent of bourgeois interiors to reflect the private origins of the collection. Around 50 selected works are integrated into this artistic setting, featuring wall designs with porthole elements that echo the museum's Tea Room and create new visual perspectives within the entrance area.
The exhibition features iconic artists including Gustav Klimt, Andy Warhol, René Magritte, Francis Bacon, artists from the ZERO group, Tim Noble & Sue Webster, Edvard Munch, Emil Nolde, Roy Lichtenstein, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Adolph Gottlieb, and Yves Klein. Schinwald's design integrates these pieces into an overall artistic environment, using wall elements and bespoke tapestries to foster a dialogue between art and visitors, offering a distinct departure from conventional museum displays.
