Exhibition summary

This exhibition examines loss in its ecological, social, and personal dimensions, exploring how environmental changes, social crises, and individual experiences shape our understanding of existence. It features diverse media from 34 international contributors, including artists, scientists, and writers.

Curatorial context

I Wish We Had More Time investigates loss as a fundamental human experience, examining its multifaceted dimensions across ecological, social, and personal realms. The exhibition addresses the destabilizing effects of climate change on natural balances and interspecies relationships, as well as the ruptures in queer history and personal connections caused by societal crises and missed encounters. Thirty-four contributors, comprising artists, scientists, writers, and musicians, present their perspectives through various media, including drawings, prints, photographs, videos, audio pieces, objects, and texts. The exhibition aims to foster dialogue and create connections, showcasing fleeting states before they transform or are lost. A central sculpture, the Orrery of Interconnected Loss, serves to weave these individual contributions into a queer cosmology of loss. By visually representing loss as a shared experience, the exhibition opens speculative scenarios about what could have been, what almost was, and what may yet be, functioning as a time capsule that preserves narratives and traces for future presents. The Institute of Queer Ecology, a collaborative organism focused on ecological crises and queer theory, coordinates this network of international contributions.
