This group exhibition, 'Hier ist Dort 2', examines visualization processes between reality and abstraction within a media-driven society, primarily through the medium of painting. It explores how artistic practices navigate the space between representation and abstraction, questioning the conditions of visibility and the construction of social realities.

Curatorial context

The group exhibition 'Hier is Dort 2' delves into the complex visualizaton processes that occur between reality and abstraction in our current media-saturated society. Focusing on painting, the exhibition examines how artistic practices aim not to occupy extreme points of representation or abstraction, but rather to semantically occupy the path of visualization itself. This path, existing between 'here' and 'there,' between viewers, societal structures, and the image, is often only sketched out, highlighting both the impossibility of fully occupying a space and the intention to understand image production not as a mere reflection of reality. The concept of 'place' is explored in multiple dimensions—spatially, philosophically, poetically, abstractly, politically, and methodologically. 'Hier ist Dort 2' engages with these themes through painting, yet without formulating its methodology in a media-immanent way. The selected works, spanning a wide range of production techniques, explore the forms and laws of visualization processes as a basis for examining the conditions of visibility. Painting, in this context, serves to introduce distance and to disrupt the visual programming of everyday information and its inherent politics. The exhibition thus shifts the determination of places towards an occupation of spaces where the coordinates of social realms are negotiated, questioning their medial and societal construction. Artists featured include Melanie Smith, Andreas Siekmann, Amelie von Wulffen, Ellen Harvey, Katrin Plavcak, Michael Krebber, Tim Gardner, and Marko Lulic, alongside works by Hildegard Joos and Esther Stocker, who engage with geometric principles and the perception of visual objects.
