Exhibition summary

Olafur Eliasson's 'Yellow Fog' is a light installation on the facade of the Verbund-Zentrale in Vienna's city center. The artwork uses fog and yellow light to create a daily spectacle at dusk.

Curatorial context

Artist Olafur Eliasson, renowned for his work with physical phenomena, light, and movement, created the 'Yellow Fog – light spectacle'. This installation, first shown in New York in 1998, is now permanently displayed on the 48-meter-long facade of the Verbund-Gebäude at the historic Am Hof square in Vienna. Each day at sundown, for one hour, the artwork surprises with a breathtaking play of light. Hidden beneath a grate in the sidewalk, 32 fluorescent lamps illuminate fog that rises up the facade every three minutes for a duration of 40 seconds. This creates a magical haze that spreads across the sidewalk and the square. Olafur Eliasson, born in 1967 in Copenhagen, lives and works in Berlin and Copenhagen.

Admission and ticket notes

The 'Yellow Fog' installation is located on the facade of the Verbund-Zentrale building. While the artwork itself is a permanent display, it is visible for one hour daily at sundown (note: not operational in winter for safety reasons). Visitors can view it from Am Hof square. Information on visiting the Verbund-Zentrale or associated exhibits would require checking their official channels.
