Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Toy Worlds Museum Basel, this exhibition explores the developmental importance of play through the use of augmented reality. Visitors can engage with animated dolls, bears, and miniature scenes that reveal the significance of play in human growth and skill-building.

To mark its 25th anniversary, the Toy Worlds Museum Basel presents 'Play is serious,' an innovative exhibition that utilizes modern technology to bring its historic collection to life. By using provided tablets, visitors can experience augmented reality animations where doll's houses, teddy bears, and grocery shops develop a life of their own, offering new insights into the museum's unique items. The exhibition underscores the vital role play serves in human development, emphasizing that it is an essential process for learning the skills required for an independent life. The exhibition features a specialized animated narrated tour and a dedicated children's track, allowing guests to see objects like zeppelins and gramophones interact dynamically with the exhibition space. Alongside the visual experience, the museum invited experts to discuss the history and necessity of play in five video installations. Visitors are also encouraged to participate directly in the space through an interactive bowling alley, making them active contributors to the exhibition environment.

Entry to the exhibition is included with standard museum admission. Standard tickets are CHF 7, with discounted rates available for seniors and persons with disabilities, and free entry for children and youth up to 16 years of age accompanied by an adult.
