Celebrating 20 Years of Bilbao BBK Live and Inclusive Culture at Sala BBK
Music and community recently converged in Kobetamendi and across the city to mark a major milestone: the 20th anniversary of Bilbao BBK Live. Recognized as an Event of Exceptional Public Interest and aligned with rigorous B Corp standards, this landmark edition emphasized social sustainability, accessibility, and deep roots in the local region.
For visitors and residents alike, the anniversary highlighted how large-scale artistic events can expand beyond traditional stages to weave together social commitment and urban celebration.
Bringing Accessible Culture to Every Visitor
A central focus of the anniversary was ensuring that the cultural experience remained open to everyone, regardless of background or ability. Through collaborative initiatives like the Solidarity Visits—championed alongside Gertu Kultura—vulnerable individuals and people with functional diversity enjoyed guided, adapted behind-the-scenes access.
Attendees from various regional organizations toured key areas, including the BALORE Space, which acts as a dedicated meeting point for equality, inclusion, and environmental awareness. Additional regional partnerships supported professional integration and community welfare, reinforcing a framework built on coexistence, mutual respect, and dedicated safe spaces adhering to local protocols like Points Sarea.
Spreading Music Throughout Bilbao
The milestone celebration also reached deep into the urban core through expansive citywide programming. The newly introduced "EUSKARAZ!" initiative transformed downtown spaces—such as the Isozaki Towers, the Arenal Kiosk, and the Albia Gardens—into free public showcases celebrating the Basque language and local artistic creation.
Complementing these performances, the well-established "Bereziak" cycle bridged the city center with the mountain summit.
