Curatorial context

The exhibition "MYTHOS?" presents a curated selection of works, drawn exclusively from the Museum Montanelli's collection of contemporary and classical art, all inspired by various forms of myths. Through paintings, objects, and artifacts, the exhibition delves into the significant role that myth, faith, and their associated symbols play in human existence. It posits that while rational understanding may limit space for the mystery of human feelings, myths offer a way to connect with deeper emotional and spiritual needs, mirroring historical yearnings for mysticism and tradition. The curatorial concept aims to evoke a deeper understanding of mythic symbolism by awakening viewers' interest in the connections between antiquity and the present. The goal is to connect visitors to the eternal human desire for universal belonging and significance, suggesting that myth helps us believe in life's meaning and the possibility of miracles. The exhibition acknowledges the enduring presence of myths in human nature and contemporary life, asserting their continued necessity. The artworks are displayed not for scientific investigation but to explore visual and psychological connections, featuring important Czech and international artists, alongside anonymous Renaissance and Baroque artists.
