Curatorial context
Located within the historic Střešovice tram depot, a building designated as a technical monument since 1991, this permanent exhibition offers a journey through Prague's public transport history. Visitors can admire a collection of more than forty historical vehicles, alongside a diverse array of exhibits such as vintage photographs, detailed models of old trains, historical documents, early tickets, and promotional posters. A notable addition is the "dark tram" exhibition, featuring a tram used during World War II.
Beyond its own collection, the museum also displays items on long-term loan from the National Technical Museum. The Střešovice depot is not solely a repository of history; one of its halls is active for dispatching operational historical trams on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays during the summer season for sightseeing Route No. 41 or special bookings. The exhibition also features a comprehensive look at the history of public transport in Prague, including unique photographs, historical documents, drawings, and video programs with film materials from the National Film Archive. Additionally, models of long-gone public transport vehicles from Prague are on display, on loan from the Museum of the City of Prague, and a model of the R1 high-speed metro vehicle, developed in the early 1970s, is exhibited by ČKD Tatra, a.s.
