This exhibition goes beyond a typical biographical or archival display, exploring the immeasurable forces that manipulate lives, as paraphrased from Franz Kafka's literary example. It is divided into three parts, revealing paradoxes in architecture, absurd paintings, and projections of bizarre historical events.

Curatorial context

This exhibition is not a traditional museum, biography, or archive dedicated to Franz Kafka's work; instead, its scope extends far beyond the author, aiming to explore the immeasurable forces that manipulate our lives, a theme that Franz Kafka himself subtly pointed out. The exhibition paraphrases these forces, following Kafka's literary example. It is structured into three distinct parts: the first part reveals paradoxes found in the Romanesque architecture buried beneath the City Hall, set within an absurd Kafkaesque space that combines 12th-century Romanesque style with 1928 Functionalism. The second part features abstract paintings by Miroslav Joudal, inspired by Kafka, which embody paradoxical situations impossible in 3D reality and present inexplicable ideas through art. The third part offers a projection of events, with fifty-four screens displaying symbolic moving images and sounds based on actual occurrences in Prague, aiming to provide a window into the author's soul without a clear plot, much like Kafka's own writing. The exhibition's author, Miroslav Joudal, a former police photographer, was deeply inspired by Franz Kafka's ability to highlight these underlying forces. After 20 years of dedication, Joudal realized his dream of revealing these forces to those willing to see, shortly before his passing. He is now interred within the exhibition itself, becoming a permanent part of his life's work.
