SÍM Gallery in Reykjavík Hosts Solo Exhibition by Nastja Säde Rönkkö
Exploring Contemporary Art and Tarot at SÍM Residency
Visitors to Reykjavík's contemporary art scene can experience a new solo exhibition at SÍM Gallery, featuring the work of visiting artist Nastja Säde Rönkkö. Curated by Ástríður Jónsdóttir, the exhibition titled snákar flykkjast um fingur mér (snakes gather around my fingers) offers an introduction to a larger, ongoing body of work by the artist.
The presentation centers on elements of Rönkkö’s expansive project Arcana Maiora, which draws inspiration from the symbolism of tarot. During a three-month residency at SÍM, the artist utilized the time to develop and record multiple components of the 22-part project, which corresponds to the Major Arcana. The works weave together themes of fate, daily life in the digital age, and emotional storytelling, inviting viewers to embrace the unknown through contemporary visual imagery.
What Visitors Can Expect from the Exhibition
The exhibition serves as a focused chapter within Rönkkö’s broader visual poetry. Known for working across video, performance, installation, and text, Rönkkö brings an international exhibition background to the space, having previously presented works at institutions such as Somerset House in London, the Museum of the Moving Image in New York, and Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki.
The opening event takes place at the ground floor exhibition space located at Seljavegur 32, with support from the Finnish Cultural Institute.
