The Living Art Museum Launches Open Call for 2026 French Residency in Clermont-Ferrand
Artists living in Iceland now have a unique opportunity to expand their contemporary art practice abroad. The Living Art Museum has announced an open call for a six-week cross-residency program at Artistes en résidence in Clermont-Ferrand, France, scheduled to take place early next year.
International Research and Production Opportunities for Local Artists
The cross-residency initiative is structured as a dedicated period for research, experimentation, and critical inquiry, allowing participants to develop their artistic practices without the pressure of final production. The selected artist from Iceland will spend six weeks abroad from January 19 to March 2, 2026.
The comprehensive residency package includes:
- A living stipend of €2,250.
- Covered travel expenses between Reykjavik and Clermont-Ferrand.
- A private bedroom within a fully equipped, shared three-bedroom apartment with a garden.
- Access to a 160-square-meter shared studio space located within the multidisciplinary complex La Diode, alongside shared technical equipment such as a wood workshop, ceramic kiln, and computer room.
- Professional mentorship and networking support from the Artistes en résidence team.
The program is organized in collaboration with Artistes en résidence, the French Embassy in Iceland, the Alliance Française de Reykjavík, and SÍM Residency, with backing from Ardian.
Application Guidelines and Deadlines
The call is open to artists of all ages and nationalities who currently live and work in Iceland. Applicants are not required to outline a finished project proposal; instead, they should submit a letter of intent detailing their current research, professional goals, and interest in the residency framework. Portfolios, CVs, and artist statements may be submitted in English, Icelandic, or French, while the letter of intent must be written in English.
Applications must be submitted through the official Artistes en Résidence portal before the strict deadline on August 10, 2025, at 11:59 pm Icelandic time. Results will be announced at the end of September 2025.
