SÍM Gallery Hosts OCEANUS Retrospective and Fifth Anniversary Exhibition
The SÍM Gallery is preparing to welcome visitors for a special retrospective exhibition celebrating the fifth anniversary of the OCEANUS festival. Known locally as an important hub for artist-led projects, the venue on Hafnarstræti will showcase the evolution of this unique contemporary art initiative, alongside a newly published commemorative book documenting its history.
What to Expect at the OCEANUS Anniversary Exhibition in Reykjavik
For visitors interested in contemporary art and community-driven creative projects, this upcoming exhibition offers a detailed look at how the festival has developed since its inception in 2022. The fifth iteration of the festival, titled "Stórsjór" (Heavy Seas), follows a month-long residency held in the coastal village of Eyrarbakki, where roughly 35 international and local participants from visual arts, photography, performance, and textile fields lived and worked together.
The retrospective brings elements of that coastal residency into the heart of the city, highlighting works shaped by local history, natural surroundings, and collaborative dialogue. Alongside the artworks, the exhibition will feature the new 100-page publication capturing photographs, stories, and reflections from the past five years of the project.
