As the contemporary performing arts venue transitions toward its summer schedule, attention turns to the creative processes that unfolded within the building earlier in the season. The venue's dedicated studio space regularly functions as a hub for artistic development, offering targeted residencies for contemporary makers and researchers.
Artistic Research and Collaboration in the Studio
During the spring months, the studio played host to artist Jonathan Noch. Alongside collaborator Ricardo Freitas, Noch utilized a two-week research residency to develop work under the working title Sharing Gravity. Their inquiry focused on the physical dynamics and interactions between human bodies and gravitational forces, examining the relationship between self, other, and weight.
Visitors and local practitioners were also given brief insight into the working process. Through a partnership with the Circus/Tanz/Labor initiative, the residency included morning research sessions tailored for semi-professional and professional dancers. The remaining period of the stay was dedicated to intensive, closed-door experimentation within the rehearsal space.
