SZENE Salzburg Announces Sommerszene 2026 Festival Lineup
The upcoming Sommerszene festival at SZENE Salzburg brings a diverse showcase of contemporary performance to the city from June 8 to June 23. This year's program features fourteen distinct productions, including five Austrian premieres and two brand-new debuts, highlighting the social and political urgency embedded in modern choreography and performance art.

Visitors attending the summer festival can experience a broad artistic spectrum encompassing dance, theater, and interdisciplinary works. The schedule spans acclaimed international revivals, thought-provoking political statements, and creative contributions from the local community.
Notable international highlights include Sasha Waltz's expressive dance classic Travelogue I – Twenty to eight and Jan Martens' rhythmically precise jump performance THE DOG DAYS ARE OVER 2.0. French artist Leĭla Ka will present her debut Maldonne for its first-ever Austrian showing, while Marco da Silva Ferreira's F*cking Future explores collective physical movement between euphoria and tension. Additional works feature Michikazu Matsune's Tomorrow we dreamed of yesterday and a closing duet titled Come Back Again by Doris Uhlich and Susanne Kirnbauer.
Local Community and Guest Performances
The festival also highlights prominent regional contributions. Rosana Ribeiro debuts Break the Dam, the BODHI PROJECT rehearses a fresh version of Ann Van den Broek's We Solo Men, Cornelia Böhnisch and Katharina Schrott stage Rauschen at the Kollegienkirche, and Applied Theatre presents BODIES, BORDERS, POROSITY.
Rounding out the schedule are guest productions such as Alberto Cissello’s POINT FIXE, Solène Weinachter’s AFTER ALL, Deva Schubert’s missed tones at the Kunstverein, and participatory outdoor installations like Dimitri de Perrot's INTO THE DIRT & SCHAUFENSTER #1 in the Kurgarten.
