The Cathedral Museum serves as the treasure-house of the Church in Salzburg, housing art-works from the Cathedral and the Archdiocese that date from the 8th to the 18th centuries. The permanent collection is centered in the South Oratory, a space featuring stuccoed rooms and historic chapel appointments that connect the Cathedral with the surrounding town. Key pieces include the Cross of St Rupert, a significant Early Mediaeval metal cross, and a collection of liturgical items ranging from Late Renaissance ostensories to the unique 1697 Precious Ostensory commissioned by Prince-Archbishop Johann Ernst Thun.
