The exhibition brings together six magnificent tapestries woven in wool and silk, originating from the Brussels workshop of Jan Aerts between 1614 and 1635. Based on earlier designs by the painter Michiel Coxcie, these artworks tell the narrative of Adam and Eve and the story of Cain and Abel. Historically, these pieces were only rarely displayed in the Cathedral nave, often positioned out of sight, making this exhibition in the North Oratory a unique opportunity for an intimate study of the craftsmanship and iconography of the entire ensemble. Beyond the physical display, the exhibition provides scholarly context regarding the origin and donation of the tapestries, which remains a subject of historical uncertainty.
