Sarker Protick: Shadows in the Sky Contemporary Art Exhibition at FOTOHOF Salzburg

This exhibition presents the work of Bangladeshi artist Sarker Protick, who utilizes photography, video, and sound to reflect on the fleeting nature of time and the impact of historical and political change. Through his lens, Dhaka is portrayed as a space where human life and nature intersect against the backdrop of monumental construction and rapid urban development.

In 'Shadows in the Sky', FOTOHOF features a contemporary artistic position from Dhaka, Bangladesh. The exhibition weaves together photography, video, and sound as a continuous meditation on the transience of a moment, framed within the broader context of political and historical development. Protick navigates the streets of his childhood neighborhood, observing the lives of people, animals, and plants as they exist amidst the shifting scenery of monumental building sites. The artist's aesthetic approach serves as a bridge between different temporal planes, where unfinished concrete and steel structures appear as frozen relics of a future that the megacities of the global south have been racing toward. The project constructs a personal yet epic narrative dedicated to life amidst the disruptions caused by colonial and capitalist processes, capturing a sense of transition where the echoes of urban development resonate throughout the work. The exhibition is presented in cooperation with the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts Salzburg.
