Exhibition summary

Thirteen emerging artists investigate themes of identity, systemic critique, and the reclamation of collective memory through various symbolic and sensitive materials.
Curatorial context
The exhibition 'Suddenly, Everything Freezes' (Soudain, tout se fige) presents works by thirteen emerging artists, curated by the collective Ombres songées. The project delves into the duality of crystallization: it acts as a mechanism to preserve memories and emotions, yet simultaneously risks becoming a static barrier that prevents transformation. Through their work, the artists engage with themes of time, identity, and the body, often critiquing societal norms and systems of exclusion. By producing archives and residual images, they seek to challenge racial and queerphobic biases while affirming the importance of unique voices within the collective memory.
The initiative is part of Apollonia’s 'carte blanche' programming, which empowers young civic service volunteers to lead curatorial projects. The collective Ombres songées, comprised of Louise Deka, Lou Resch, and Clémence Lecomte, aims to create inclusive spaces for local emerging artists. This exhibition reflects Apollonia's ongoing commitment to 'DémoCréation,' supporting human rights, democracy, and the visibility of marginalized cultural and gender identities through the lens of contemporary creation.
