Exhibition summary

In this exhibition, Franco-Chilean artist Emma Cossée Cruz explores the intersection of human fragility and high-tech digital medicine. Through a series of black-and-white photographs transferred onto plaster and video works, she investigates how medical imaging technologies shape our physical and intimate realities.

Curatorial context

In the exhibition 'In silico', artist Emma Cossée Cruz presents a sensory exploration of healing and the pervasive role of digital technology in our intimate lives. Drawing on a residency in Strasbourg, where she observed researchers developing digital medical devices and 'digital twins'—virtual organ models used to simulate surgery—Cossée Cruz translates complex technological themes into a delicate, tactile artistic language. Her large-scale black-and-white photographs of medical machines are juxtaposed with fragile materials like plaster and watercolor, bridging the gap between the artificiality of algorithmic medicine and the organic reality of the human body. By weaving together imagery of medical technology with traditional fiber work and personal reflections on healthcare, the artist challenges the objective language of medical diagnostics. The exhibition acts as a meditative response to the clinical gaze, contemplating how medical vocabulary shapes our relationship to our own bodies. Through this installation, visitors are invited to reflect on the tension between the precision of digital code and the opaque, lived experience of health, illness, and the persistent humanity of the body in a technological society.
