Curatorial context

The grounds of Schönbrunn Palace Park are once again home to a vineyard, reviving a tradition that dates back to the time of Maria Theresa. Once featuring a vineyard known as the "Liesenpfennig" before the palace gardens were altered, this site was replanted in 2009 by vintners from the WienWein group. The vineyard is cultivated using the traditional "Wiener Gemischter Satz" method, where various grape varieties are planted together, harvested, and processed collectively. The resulting wine also bears the historical name "Liesenpfennig" and is auctioned annually for charity. The first harvest from this revitalized vineyard took place in autumn 2012, continuing a significant aspect of Viennese heritage and viticulture.
