Curatorial context

ArchDiplom(a) 2021 presents around 90 diploma projects completed over the last two years by students from the Faculty for Architecture and Planning at Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien). The exhibition acts as a portrait of the emerging generation of architects, highlighting their individual visions, dreams, societal critiques, and questions. These works emerge from the faculty's diverse research areas, positioning it as one of Europe's largest architecture faculties. The display deliberately avoids fixed categorizations or order, instead presenting individual projects within a mosaic of thematic focuses and often contradictory narratives. Following the logic of Jorge Luis Borges' Chinese encyclopedia, these focuses are not meant to be supplementary but to follow different kinds of logic, emphasizing an incomplete and extensible system. The exhibition concept, developed by curators at the Institute of Architecture and Design in collaboration with Berlin-based Something Fantastic, emphasizes the haptic qualities of the work through book objects and models, inviting visitors to immerse themselves. The presentation is accompanied by a website and a catalogue.
