This memorial exhibition is located in the former apartment of composer Johann Strauss, where he created his famous 'On the Beautiful Blue Danube' waltz. The exhibition showcases original furniture, personal musical instruments, and everyday objects that tell the story of the Waltz King's life and work.
The Johann Strauss Apartment on Praterstrasse offers a unique glimpse into the life of the renowned composer. Johann Strauss II lived in this prestigious town house from 1863 until the 1870s, a period during which he composed his most famous waltz, "On the Beautiful Blue Danube," in 1867. The living and working rooms have been preserved and now house a memorial exhibition dedicated to the musician.
The exhibition provides an intimate look at Strauss's life, beyond his public persona. Visitors can explore original furniture from his residence, his personal musical instruments, and various everyday objects. Highlights include a display cabinet of ball gifts, a Bösendorfer baby grand piano gifted for his 71st birthday, his standing desk, a harmonium, a playing card box with tarot cards depicting his wives, and a music box with his monogram. The collection also features portraits, photographs, documents, parts of the original decorative ceiling edging, and even his death mask, offering a comprehensive narrative of the 'Waltz King'.
