The Kunsthalle Wien Preis 2025 exhibition showcases the work of artists Jonida Laçi and Luīze Nežberte, who have been awarded the annual prize. The exhibition features site-specific adaptations and new works derived from their diploma presentations.
The Kunsthalle Wien Preis 2025 celebrates a new generation of artists with an annual award for outstanding diploma presentations. This year's recipients, Jonida Laçi and Luīze Nežberte, present an exhibition that reflects the cohesion between their distinct practices. Laçi, who works across sculpture, video, photography, installation, and text-based practices, explores questions of form, translation, and standardization, often examining how socio-economic inscriptions are embedded in familiar materials and spaces. Nežberte's work, focusing on sculpture and space, recontextualizes material through personal memory, vernacular form, and historical narratives, often using common building materials to reinterpret historical architecture. Their presentations at Kunsthalle Wien Karlsplatz have been developed with site-specific adaptations and new works.
The prize, initially established in 2002, is organized in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Laçi and Nežberte receive a joint exhibition, an accompanying catalogue, and a monetary award. The exhibition is further accompanied by a publication featuring commissioned essays by Mirela Baciak and Chris Clarke, providing deeper insight into the artists' practices and the curatorial vision.
