Curatorial context

Mythos Mozart offers an extraordinary multimedia experience dedicated to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, promising a unique sensory journey. Located in Vienna, where Mozart passed away, this exhibition takes visitors on a 60-minute immersive tour through five distinct rooms, blending high technology, creativity, and historical background. The experience is designed to be captivating for Mozart and music fans alike. Visitors can expect to be amazed by a combination of music, performing arts, architecture, and cutting-edge technology, featuring elaborate spatial and media staging. The soundscape is 'Made in Vienna,' with music composed and rearranged by sound specialist Walter Werzowa and performed by students from the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. The exhibition explores different facets of Mozart's genius, from visually stunning 360-degree panoramas of 18th-century Vienna to interactive musical experiences and digital art installations inspired by his creative thought processes. One room features 1,500 LED candles illuminating a sacred space with the Requiem playing from numerous speakers, while another offers a chance to fly over Vienna and experience scenes from 'The Magic Flute'. The finale, 'Mozart Forever,' uses AI to create digital imagery from millions of data points. The exhibition is situated in a historically significant location: Kärntner Straße 19, the former 'Kleine Kayserhaus' where Mozart died in 1791. This prime spot in Vienna's pedestrian zone is now part of the Steffl Department Store. The creation of this immersive world has involved an international team of experts and artists since 2019, including British-German lighting designer Moritz Waldemeyer, Austrian-Iranian director Arash T. Riahi, and Los Angeles-based new media artist Refik Anadol. The project is supported by leading institutions from the 'Vienna Creative Industry'. Testimonials from renowned figures like tenor Rolando Villazón and composer/violinist Aleksey Igudesman highlight the exhibition's artistic merit and its potential to become a major Viennese attraction.
